California law now requires Uber to provide certain safety information to passengers

After Uber disclosed over 100 incidents of rape or abuse by its drivers, effective January 1, 2019, California law now requires Uber to provide certain safety information to Uber passengers.

Cal. Pub. Util. Code § 5445.1 requires Uber to provide the following safety information to passengers on its app at the time the passenger is matched with an Uber driver.

• The Uber driver's first name and a picture of him or her;

• An image of the make and model of the Uber driver's vehicle; and

• The license plate number of the Uber driver's vehicle.
