On Nov. 5, 2018, an Uber driver was responding to a ride request and made an illegal U-turn across double yellow lines in an intersection in San Francisco.
Jessica Christie, a 23-year-old UC Berkeley student who was riding her motorcycle to a cafe where she worked, collided with Martinez. She suffered blunt force injuries and tragically died later. Her family sued Uber and the Uber driver, who denied wrongdoing. The case was settled confidentially.
